Artifice (Artf) is a skill.
It indicates the characters proficiency in dealing with small constructions and mechanical devices. It is particularly important for disarming traps and opening locks.

Evolution

The Artifice skill starts somewhat higher with Town Trades Family and Country Crafts Family family backgrounds.
The craftsman occupations (Master Craftsman, Journeyman Craftsman, Apprentice Craftsman) increase the skill significantly more than the others.
In-game, the skill can be increased through tutoring by the local tinkerers, or as a result of certain events (see below). For the character with the highest Artifice skill, it is extremely easy to maximize it by repeatedly trying to break into the offices at night.

Related attributes & skills

  • [Perception] is important for detecting traps; it does not seem to affect the chance of opening locks though
  • [Strength] is important as the character attempting to disarm a trap will take the most damage if it fails

Events

These events are influenced by your character's Artifice skill, and may improve the skill on conclusion:
  • Break into the offices at night
  • Disarm traps
  • Open locks (need lockpick!)
